Mahoning Valley Tree Symposium 2021

On October 16, 2021 the YSU Legacy Forest committee hosted an event to discuss climate change causes and solutions for the Mahoning Valley. Over 45 YSU students, faculty, and local community members joined us in this all-day event. Keynote speaker Dan Herms, VP of the Davey Tree Company in Kent, OH, delivered a compelling argument to remain optimistic for the climate crisis. A clear solution in preventing further climate warming exists with planting trees, the lungs of the earth. Phil Kidd also spoke, providing a wealth information from his career in environmental advocacy and community action. The event culminated in the creation of the Mahoning Valley Tree Coalition, in order to begin large-scale efforts to plant far past the boundaries YSU Legacy Forests.
